If you haven’t been to Lyon yet, I strongly recommend to add this amazing city to your list. Ideally located, only 2 hours by TGV from Paris and less than 2 hours from the Alps and from Procence, this is not only a place to stop by but a place that has plenty of cultural and gourmet sites on offer.
I was lucky to go back to Lyon recently for a weekend to test out the latest spots. We started with the slopes of the famous Croix-Rousse, which used to be home to silk workers. On a cold winter day, we went to l’Oenotheque for a delicious homemade brunch and then to L’Instant tearoom for some lovely cakes and comforting tea.
L’Instant offers a wide selection of teas, spreads and chocolates to take away. The wooden loft-like decor is very cosy and that praline chocolate mousse was simply amazing !
The next day, we had the opportunity to test the fabulous brunch at L’Oenotheque, the perfect hideaway for a rainy Sunday .
The first part included sweet French options, such as the kouign amann from Brittany, a praline brioche which is a specialty from Lyon, a granola, some baguette and jams. The second part for the savoury version included among others, scrambled eggs with either raw meat or salmon “tartare” without forgetting the lemon tarts and fruit salades for dessert; Everything is homemade. Please remember to book as the place is very popular.
Another good surprise in Lyon was the Movie and Miniatures’ Museum in the heart of Old Lyon .
The temporary exhibition presents a stunning model of the Grand Budapest Hotel. The museum is also full of costumes, masks and restorations of all kinds of European and Hollywood movie sets. A must see for movie lovers !
For dinner, the Argentinean Milonga, in the Brotteaux neighbourhood, did not disappoint with its delicious hearty burger. The Argentian beef was so tender. Empanadas addicts will also love this place.
After a couple of days in Lyon, we headed to the nearby Savoie mountains. I will tell you more about this little getaway very soon on the blog.
