When I first moved back to Paris, I was delighted to discover that the cocktail scene was changing, thanks to places like The Experimental Cocktail Club.
Most visitors have walked through the busy Montorgueil street, filled with nice cafés and grocery stores but if you feel a little more adventurous, you should explore the little side streets, like the rue Saint-Sauveur. Now if you walk in a hurry, you probably won’t notice the bar at first sight. Nothing from the inside will tell you where you are, apart from a little sign mentioning its name. After opening the door, you will still need to open the large velvet curtains to enter this cocktail haven.
The menu offers a nice selection of cocktails and is popular with both Parisians and expats. My favourite is the Experimental 1, a good combination of vodka, lemon juice, elderflower cordial and fresh basil : very refreshing ! The place is also worth a visit for its cosy decor. Only one downside : the place is small. Weekdays are probably best if you want to avoid the crowds.
